Geometrical Data
Three bore holes were performed on the site, their location being presented on the map. Soil samples have been taken from each bore hole and an extensive geotechnical investigation came out to the following characteristics:
The first bore hole: is located at 1m distance from the main road. It begins at 82+0.5N elevation and consists of:
- Top soil for 55 cm depth
- Layer 1:
1.5 + 0.2N m thickness, and the P1 soil sample has been taken from the middle of the layer, with the following characteristics:
- Granulometric composition: clay = 9 + N %; silt = 15 + N %; sand = 76 – 2N %
- Natural moisture content: W = 30 + 0.2N %
- Liquid limit: WL = 38 + 0.1N %
- Plastic limit: WP = 18 + 0.1N %
- Unit weight of solids: s = 26.5 kN/m3
- Natural unit weight: = 18.2 + 0.1N kN/m3
- Oedometer module: M1-2 = 47 daN/cm2 ; M1-3 = 85 daN/cm2
- Strain at 2 daN/cm2: = 4 %
- Shear parameters selected from STAS 3300/1.2 – 1985 according to the soil type.
H1 = 2.5 m
Clay = 14 %; Silt = 20 %; Sand = 66 %
W = 31 %
WL = 38.5 %
WP = 18.5 %

- Layer 2:
6.9 – 0.1N m thickness and the P2 soil sample has been taken from the middle of the layer, with the following characteristics:
- Granulometric composition: clay = 58 + 0.2N %; silt = 28 + 0.2N %; sand = 14 – 0.4N %
- Natural moisture content: W = 46 - 0.1N %
- Liquid limit: WL = 65 - 0.2N %
- Plastic limit: WP = 29 %
- Unit weight of solids: s = 27.1 kN/m3
- Natural unit weight: = 19 - 0.05N kN/m3
- The stress – strain curve given by:

- Layer 3:
Is the bedrock – clayey marl – and the borehole enter 1 m depth and the P3 soil sample has been taken from the middle, with the following characteristics:
- Natural moisture content: W = 20 %
- Plastic limit: WP = 22 %
- Unit weight of solids: s = 27.2 kN/m3
- Natural unit weight: = 20.2 - 0.05N kN/m3
- Soil modulus: E = 11000 + 10N kPa
- Shear parameters selected from STAS 3300/1.2 – 1985 according to the soil type.
H3 = 1 m
W = 20 %
WL = 41 %
WP = 22 %
s = 27.2 kN/m3
