Introduction
Every profession requires constant self – training. This becomes even more important for translators due to the specifics of this profession. Translation is creative work. Translation is an ART.
Translators play a very important role in the society and they cannot be replaced by any machine translation in the further development of human civilization. Professional translators are applied linguists whose ability to work with language, write well and, for freelancers, to operate a business, represent their basic source of income.
Translation implies a regular training and self – promotion that is why this project plays an important role for the future translators, because thanks to this we get experience and, so, we are nearly to our goal – to become professional translators.
This work contains different texts from different domains. There are political, social, economical, cultural and scientific texts. Also there are two glossaries, one contains 25 English terms which are translated into Romanian, and vice versa, the second has 25 Romanian terms translated into English language.
I chose these texts; firstly, because I wanted to understand why it is so important to have good knowledge of almost everything in both languages, also it makes me to realize why it is important to know what happens in the society at various levels, first of all at country level, then regionally and lately in his close neighborhood; as well as knowledge of history, astronomy, political and economic situation.
Of course, I met some difficulties during the process of translation, because it is hard sometimes to find a perfect equivalent in target language and sometimes we even cannot understand the message of the source text, although somebody can say that anyone can immediately define the translation as “taking the meaning from one text and integrating it into another language for a new and sometimes different readership.” Such a simple definition hides two complex concepts: meaning and message.
The main purposes of this work are:
- a direct accumulation of specific terms for specific notions;
- to develop the capacity to work with two languages (building the communication bridge between them);
- to understand the necessity of knowledge of the terminology in a given context;
- to accumulate experience;
- to develop and to improve our knowledge of languages in every field;
- to improve the languages using them in many different contexts;
- to be ready to try new fields of specialized language.
Professional translators are people who are dedicated to their languages and the notions, societies and cultures that come with them. They are devoted to improving their ability to understand their source language and write in their target language. They recognize that translation is both an art and a skill. As such, they are also committed to deepening their knowledge of the fields they translate in, and to cultivating greater facility for writing about such matters. They also have nurtured a deep respect for business ethics, aware that they are in many instances the communication conduit for a product or service, for information or opinion, and so must consider the consequences of their linguistic decisions. Finally, professional translators know that they can always improve and polish their translation ability.
Consiliul European (see annex 1 page 11-12)
Consiliul European este o organizaţie politică fondată la 5 mai 1949 de către 10 ţări europene cu scopul de a promova o legătură mai strînsă între membrii săi. Actual ea întruneşte 46 de state europene.
Obiectivele fundamentale ale organizaţiei sunt de a promova democraţia, drepturile omului şi normele juridice, şi de a manifesta interese comune privind problemele politice, sociale, culturale şi juridice ale statelor membre. Începînd cu anul 1989 aceasta a integrat majoritatea ţărilor Europei Centrale şi de Est şi le-a susţinut eforturile de implementare şi consolidare ale reformelor politice, juridice şi administrative.
Consiliul European îşi are sediul permanent în Strasbourg – Franţa.
