Porsche România

Introduction

I have chosen Porsche Romania to make a project about because it is the importer in Romania of some of my favourite car brands, such as Audi and Volkswagen. Since I was very young my family had different german cars, mostly Volkswagen and I remember that they were reliable. By doing this project I wanted to learn more about the Volkswagen Group’s presence in Romania.

History

Volkswagen was founded in 1937, to build the car which would be known as the “Kafer” or “Bettle”. After the end of the war the production restarted and it rapidly grew in the 1950’s and 1960’s. In 1965 they have acquired Auto Union, which was the producer of the post-war Adui cars. In 1970’s Volkswagen launched 3 new models, the Passat, Polo and Golf. The Golf had major success and became a best seller car of the brand. In 1986 Volkswagen bought a controlling stake in Seat, thus making it the first non-German company it acquired and got complete control of it in 1994. In 1998 they acquired Bentley, Lamborghini and Bugatti. Later, in 2008 it acquired Ducati and Man and merged with Porsche in 2012.

Volkswagen Group’s presence in Romania began in 1997 when Porsche Romania was established. Having 8 employees and belonging to the Porsche Holding GmbH Salzburg, Porsche Romania became the largest auto importer in Romania. In March 2011, Porsche Holding was integrated in the Volkswagen AG concern as one of its subsidiaries.

In 2006 there have been more than 100.000 vehicles sold.

In 2007 Porsche Inter Auto Romania was established reuniting under the same juridical umbrella all the dealers of the Porsche Group.

On 10 January 2008 the amount doubled to a total of 200.000 vehicles sold. Porsche Romania is the general importer for car manufacturers such as Volkswagen, Audi, Seat, Skoda, Volkswagen Work Vehicles, Lamborghini and Bentley.

Their most important objective of the company was to establish an advanced network of distribution and service at a national level.

Organization

The group is formed by 4 companies: Porsche Leasing, Porsche Bank, Porsche Mobility and Porsche Insurance.

Porsche Romania has over 85 car dealers.

Their object of activity is importing cars which belong to the Volkswagen Group, such as:

-Audi

-Seat

-Skoda

-Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles

-Porsche

-Bentley

-Lamborghini

They also deal with financing and direct insurance of the sold vehicles.

Car service is also offered, mentioning that their car parts are of good quality and fiability.

Porsche Romania also has special offers addressing companies that need cars. They offer counseling for businesses for choosing the right vehicles for their companies in order to find the best suitable solution for them. Financing is offered for companies that need vehicles along with insurance and car fleet management.
