1.Argument

First of all,Ive chosed Stonhendge because I found it very interesting, and I would like to visit it if I had the oportunity. The reason I would like to visit it it because Im very amaized of the engineering achievement that the druids done a very long time ago.

The feeling of being in the middle of those huge stones must be quite amaizing knowing the fact that many people have visited them and they have an interesting history being there for thousands of years.

Stonehendge is an icon of England and represents a specific civilization:the druids and is to England how the pyramids are for the Egyptians.Althoug the reason for wich it was built is known the it still has some magic in it and people will always be intrigued by its

mistery.

I would like to visit stonehendge because I was always passionate by history and I like to see the way ancient civilizations have created art, because in way stonehendge is

a form of art.I would probably be surprised by the way those huge stones are aligned perfectly in a circle and in the middle you can see the other ones placed with high accuracy. We thought that our ancesters werent very intelligent, but stonehendge and other archeologic sites proves the contrary. In an other way sites like this give us living proof, more than old texts that other civilizations were here before us.

Skipping the fact that stonehendge is first of all

2. Stonehenge Construction Periods, Phases, and History:

Stonehenge is definitely one of England's greatest icons. Its original purpose is still somewhat unclear, but some have speculated that it was a temple made for worship of ancient earth deities. It has also been called an astronomical observatory for marking significant events on the ancient prehistoric calendar. Others claim that it was a sacred site created by Merlin and King Arthur for the burial of high-ranking citizens from societies of long ago.No matter what the claim has been for Stonehenge's original purpose, the truth is that it has inspired countless generations of people to strive to learn and figure out the history of our past. Stonehenge is somewhat a "gateway to the realms" providing insights into humanities past and showing that maybe we were not as "technically challenged" as some would like us to believe.

Grandiose, world-reknowned and utterly unique, Stonehenge has held on to most of its secrets despite the efforts of archaeologists... It is impossible to put into context by looking at other stone circles because it is one of a kind - there really is nothing else remotely like it. We can find bigger stone circles at Castlerigg, Avebury, Newgrange and Stanton Drew. We can find structures within circles at Avebury, but nowhere else is the singular lintel structure of Stonehenge to be found. Nor is there any other example of the tongue and groove interlocking construction which has enable this drystone building to stand against the passage of Time for almost four thousand years.

Indeed, some of the attraction of Stonehenge is perhaps this feeling that this building from so long ago, both temporally and culturally, connects us with our past. It reaches to us across the ages - two hundred generations of people, from our prehistoric ancestors who left no writing that we can discern, to us with all the trappings of our post-industrial world.

Construction of Stonehenge was broken into three periods:

Stonehenge Period I (c. 2950-2900 BC)

The earliest portion of Stonehenge dates to approximately 2950-2900 BC. The dates for each "period" can be fixed to about a 100 years or so with radiocarbon dating, but as to the exact building sequence within each period archaeologist cannot be certain.

The first period of Stonehenge was basically a circular enclosure outlined by two banks and a ditch with an entrance to the northeast and a standing stone a bit away from the entrance.

The outer circle was made from earthand even though it is now mostly destroyed, it was about 380 feet in diameter, 8 feet wide, and 2 or 3 feet high.
